Vanessa Research, Inc. (VRI), has announced the launch of a new educational website on microvillus inclusion disease or MVID – a rare, lethal genetic disorder that causes severe and chronic diarrhea in young babies and children. The goal of the site is to share resources with families and patients living with the daily challenges of this disease and to raise awareness within the medical community. The new website is located at http://mvid.vanessaresearch.com.

According to Dr. Dmitry Kravtsov, VP of Research & Development, “With this site, we want to offer tools and comprehensive resources to help the MVID community, whether you are a doctor trying to learn more about this rare disease or a parent of a patient grappling with the day-to-day difficulties of managing MVID.”

The MVID site has sections designed for both patient families and doctors. It includes easy-to-understand descriptions of the disease and treatment options, with illustrative diagrams, photos, and graphics. It also contains a patient resource page with MVID community organizations and medical support services, such as genetic testing centers and a global list of hospitals that can support MVID patients. For medical professionals, the website has curated primary research on MVID and its etiology, epidemiology, and pathogenesis, including Dr. Kravtsov’s publication on the differentiation of MVID intestinal cells.

The website will also provide updates on Shylicine™, the first oral anti-diarrheal treatment for MVID, and efforts to get government approval. The goal of Shylicine™ is to restore intestinal function so patients can eat and drink normally.

VRI plans to continually update and expand the educational site to make it a trusted source for MVID-related information. Visitors are encouraged to explore the website and to check back regularly for the most up to date information concerning MVID.
